I am trying to get myself back into making things and enjoying creating. Whilst also actually getting through the drudgery of actually bloody finishing things.
In that vein, I decided that I would create video versions of my old podcast – The North South Divide. They are still available via the original blog*, but as they were on The Internet Archive, which has had some issues of late, I decided to do this partly for posterity.
I have had to cut a couple of bits from the originals as they had copyrighted music, otherwise they are as they were. I have simply added a new still graphic and that is pretty much it.
I also did it to kick myself up the bottom and remind myself that I can make things like podcasts and videos, as I have done before. I find that I forget that I made something once it is finished, and I then get paralysis about making the next thing.
So they are all here, with a link further down to the original blog that they were put on at the time. I loved making these. I am really proud of what James and I made and I enjoyed collaborating with him. He made me start writing again after (and during) a particularly difficult period of my life, which is something that I will never forget. I owe him a great deal. His website is here: https://zx85.me/
I have plans to make an audiobook version of Fetlock Bones that I will release in parts. As this is already written it might mean that I am able to do this. It will be good practice for my next actual project, which is “WhimbleChurch On Sea”. This is going to be a whimsical and surreal podcast with an emphasis on story and sound.
So listen away in a slightly more convenient format, and it might get me to make other stuff.
If there are any errors, I apologise, I have done all of this in one day and my hyperfocus can only get me so far.
Here are a few notes regarding the uploads:
I had to change “The Reckoning” as a joke advert had Jona Lewie Stop The Cavalry as a bed. I just removed that bit as it was the easiest option
I took out a few seconds of Krazy by Seal and Notorious by Duran Duran from The Sky episode. They were the intro and the outro of the Local DJ bit. This bit was based on a thing I wrote as a student that I rewrote for this episode, as it always made me laugh when I heard the original. So that sketch dates back to the early 90s, which explains the music choices I would imagine!
We also do not have a copy of the Rock Lobster episode, as that was hosted by the Rock Network, which no longer exists. I do not have a copy of that one that I can find anywhere. Given that it had then unsigned music on it would cause issues anyway so it is lost to time.
