Viz Magazine

Clever Trevor

So, hi. Nice to see you again. I know, it’s been a while hasn’t it? How’re you?

I am just about okay, thanks for asking. Well not really but let’s have a bit of good news. I have had letters in the last couple of Viz Magazines. I am stupidly excited about this, I have read the Viz Magazine on and off pretty much since about a year after it started.

I actually went to the same school* as the Donald brothers who started it, I didn’t know them at the time but it explains an awful lot about how I turned out. Anyway I decided to send some bits in after chatting to a few online comedy friends who are regularly featured in the august journal.

And I got one in!

That’s me!

And I did the following month!

No I don’t get paid for it, yes I have had work on radio and TV etc etc. This is part of me building my confidence back up and realising that I am funny and I can do more.

My ADHD diagnosis and depression had pretty much stopped me writing although I was still full of ideas. I just need to be able to:

A) Focus

2) Motivate myself

And some other funny third thing.

I have always believed, deep down that I am a hack and that no one really likes my stuff, which is why I have always struggled with online comedy. You do a joke on a stage, or make a great scene in live improv and you instantly know.

When you post something on the internet there is often almost no feedback. What does this mean? I dunno, but I am happy about Viz at least.

    Trev, you are enough.

You’ve always been one of the most naturally funny people I’ve ever met. Since the BG days and popping into hospital radio at Huddersfield and featuring on my “legendary award-winning show” (let’s be honest, we had a captive audience… most of the patients were too elderly and infirm to take the headphones off once the nurses shoved them on 🤣) you’ve been razor-sharp, darkly hilarious, and one of the smartest comic minds I’ve had the pleasure to know.

I totally relate to what you said in this blog. I live with ill health too, including anxiety and depression, and I know how self-doubt can creep in and convince you that your talent isn’t real.

But mate… it is. You’ve got more raw talent in your little finger than most people will ever have. That Viz spot? Totally deserved. It’s not just a win, it’s proof. You are funny. You always have been.

Keep going, fella. You’re not just enough mate, you’re class.

    Scott 😊
