Evoque

Equality, pah!

A guest blog post by Fanny Malinkus, a private landlord who has worked hard all of her life at owning property, that she inherited, and making it work for her financially.

These are difficult times. I cannot even pop out to my local coffee shop to get my usual, my Evoque sits in the drive looking at me. I am having to pay for it, but it cannot go anywhere, how is that fair and equitable?

Left-wingers talk about fairness, well they never want to talk about that sort of thing, do they? Come on Greta, how much of a waste of the environment is that?

I presume that I am getting paid to write this? Nigella, be a dear and check that out after you have finished typing this up would you? Don’t leave this bit in babes, ok?

Fairness is all some people talk about, equality. Well, equality for the rich is so often overlooked, isn’t it? My coffee shop is closed due to the coronavirus, well I am sorry but how is my morning coffee, as a key worker, not essential?

I work very very hard at maintaining the income from the collection of private rental properties that I inherited from my dear departed papa. It is not easy keeping on top of the team that I have to employ to make sure that all of the tenants are paying as they are contractually obliged to.

I have to have a team to do it as my portfolio of properties is so large. I couldn’t possibly do that and manage all of the other things that I do in my life. I go to yoga twice a week, well I did before all of this horror. Nigella could you pop the proper name for the virus in here, please? Make me sound knowledgeable, that would be gr8.

All of the mainstream media is full of stories of doctors, nurses, shop staff and so on and it is important that they are at work. Principally as a lot of them will be renting properties from me, and I would hate to have to evict them. How would that look if that story got out? It is important for the economy that all low paid staff stay in work to keep money flowing.

I am in the lucky position that I can work from home, but I miss my working lunches with the other yummy mummies in that bistro that popped up in town a few months ago. That will probably have closed by now, where am I going to get my gluten-free smashed avocado toast now? What do people who cannot afford to go there do for lunch, do they have to make their own?

I only bake when I can put it on Instagram with the #bakingforyummymummies. Not that I am a parent, I would love to be but honestly, I have too busy a life to manage it right now. I presume that having children is like having a pet, and you have to devote some time to finding the best kennels.

It is wonderful that this blog is giving me a chance to show the mainstream media that this is hitting everyone hard. I was saying just that to the lead singer of that ‘80s band that I know, erm Duran something. It’s difficult to manage day to day when you simply cannot do the things that you have to do.

For example, Petra, my pedigree pooch needs two walks a day at least, and I cannot take her out both times, so I have had to employ a dog walking service to do it. That is just an extra expense that I wouldn’t have needed normally, as my Slavic cleaner would have done it for free if she hadn’t had to go back home in a hurry to look after her family.

The selfishness that I have to deal with on a day to day basis is just insane.

So think on when you are clapping the NHS, hmm? Remember the unsung heroes like me.
